The Self-Financing wing of St Dominic’s College includes the Department of Vocational Commerce, Department of B. Voc. and the Postgraduate Department of English and it offers four undergraduate programmes and one postgraduate programme under the self-financing stream. The general objective of the self-financing department is to introduce job-oriented courses that promote employability as well as entrepreneurial ventures in the stakeholders.

The self-financing wing situated in the New Academic Block is maintained with adequate infrastructural, laboratory and students support systems. The infrastructural facilities include well-furnished classrooms, Computer Lab with Wi-Fi facility for providing practical sessions for each student, Activity Oriented Workshop and facilities for Rain Shelter farming and Precision farming. The students are transformed into professionals by providing Add on Courses, Career orientations, HRD Skill Trainings and programmes for Entrepreneurial development. The students are being properly mentored and supported emotionally to be stress-free through proper counselling and personal care.

The UGC-sponsored programme B. Com. Computer Applications was started in 1999 and functioned under the Department of Commerce for five years, before turning out to be a self financing programme. The Department of Commerce (Self Financing) was subsequently established and presently has 250 students and 11 faculty members.

Department of Commerce (SF)

The Department of Commerce (SF) at St. Dominic’s College offers innovative double-major undergraduate FYUGP programs designed to provide students with strong academic grounding and industry-oriented skills.

The department runs two batches: one with majors in Finance & Taxation and Accounting, and another with majors in Logistics and Marketing. Students also pursue a minor in Computer Application, featuring papers such as Documentation Tools and Techniques, AI Presentation Tools, and AI Techniques for Data Analysis.

As part of the FYUGP system, students undergo a mandatory internship in the 4th semester, enabling them to gain practical exposure and hands-on experience. The department has established MOUs with reputed industries, both nearby and across the state, to support and facilitate these internship opportunities.

Additionally, the department offers Multidisciplinary Courses (MDC) and Value Added Courses (VAC) in Computer Application, Statistics, and Business Administration, ensuring a well-rounded and future-ready learning experience. Through this integrated academic structure, the department strives to groom competent, confident, and professionally capable graduates.

Postgraduate Department of English

The Department of English (PG) offer;

  • M.A English Language and Literature

The objectives of MA in English Language and Literature includes providing a platform for the graduates in English and for those from other disciplines interested in English to continue their higher studies, ensuring the vertical mobility of the candidates by unfolding before the students the vistas of job opportunities and producing scholars in the areas of English Language and Literature.
The Post Graduate programme in English was started in St. Dominic’s College, Kanjirapally, in 2013 as a self-financing programme.

Department of B.Voc

The Department of B.Voc offers two B.Voc. Programmes;

  • B.Voc. Agriculture Technology
  • B.Voc. Agro Food Processing

Moving along with the trend of the New Generation Courses, St. Dominic’s College Kanjirapally, with the grant of the University Grants Commission (UGC), started B.Voc Programmes in the college from November 2018. The B.Voc. Programmes aim at skill development of the students with the newly adopted methods of teaching, activity- oriented classes (AOC), industrial visits, internships and so on. More than acquiring a job in an industry or other such fields, these programmes promote and encourage the students to become entrepreneurs.
In B.Voc Agriculture Technology, the students will learn about different methods of farming, application of fertilizers, pest management, animal husbandry management and emerging technologies in the field of agriculture. In B.Voc Agro Food Processing, the students will be acquainted with the chemistry of food, different methods of preserving foods, methods of analyzing food quality, food adulteration testing methods, various national and international food laws and regulations, processing and manufacture of different types of foods and value addition of different agro food products.
